Resumen

In order to evaluate the effect of a hydrolyzed enzymatic product of Saccharomyces cerevisiae yeasts on the rumen microbial population,
an experiment was conducted under in vitro conditions. The technique of submerged culture with mechanical shaking was used in a water bath
at 39 ?C. The treatments corresponded to the levels of the hydrolyzed product, being: A) 0 (control), B) 75 mL/kg of concentrate/d, and C)
100 mL/kg of concentrate/d. As substrate, Pennisetum purpureum cv. Cuba CT-115 was used at 112 d of regrowth. The samplings were
performed before the incubation (hour 0) and at 4 and 8 h after fermentation. The population of total viable bacteria was 20.89, 22.37, and 50.47 x 1011 cfu/mL, for the treatments A, B, and C, respectively. There was significant interaction between the treatments and the different fermentation times for the cellulolytic bacteria. The largest populations were found at 4 h after fermentation in the treatments with 75 and 100 mL/kg of concentrate/d. There was not effect of the hydrolyzed product on the population of proteolytic bacteria, fungi, and rumen pH. It was concluded that the hydrolyzed product of Saccharomyces cerevisiae increases the total population of rumen bacteria and it is able of activating the population of celluloytic bacteria at the times of maximum fermentation. This could contribute to higher fiber degradation in ruminants.
Key words: hydrolyzed product, Saccharomyces cerevisiae, bacteria, rumen.
