				<title>Abstract</title>
				<p>The nutritive characterization of trees from the Amazonian piedmont was carried out, in Putumayo department, Colombia. Random samples of six local forage species were collected: <italic>Tithonia diversifolia</italic>, <italic>Trichantera gigantea</italic>, <italic>Piptocoma discolor</italic>, <italic>Clitoria fairchildiana</italic>, <italic>Hibiscus rosa - sinensis and Solanum rugosum</italic>, with regrowth age of sixty days. The bromatological characterization was performed by NIRS spectroscopy and the content of anti-nutritional factors was qualitatively determined. For the statistical analysis, the statisticians, mean, standard deviation and coefficient of variation were taken into account. <italic>Piptocoma discolor</italic> highlighted for its high quality, since it showed the highest digestibility percentage (74.71) and higher protein values (21.52 %) and energy content (10.26 Mj/kg DM) with respect to the rest of the species. It was followed by <italic>Trichantera gigantea</italic>, with a digestibility percentage of 68.99; protein values of 20.34 % and energy content of 9.63 ME (Mj/kg DM). The <italic>Hibiscus rosa-sinensis</italic> species showed the lowest values of NDF (34.47 %) and ADF (17.13 %) and higher total starch content (3.31 %). In the mineral composition, the values of Zn and Cu for the tree <italic>Trichantera gigantea</italic> and the amount of Ca and P for <italic>Tithonia diversifolia</italic> were higher than the other forage plants. According to the characterization of the shrubs, it is concluded that the species <italic>Piptocoma discolor</italic>, <italic>Trichantera gigantea</italic> and <italic>Hibiscus rosa - sinensi</italic> have an adequate content of protein, energy and digestibility. The species <italic>Tithonia diversifolia</italic>, <italic>Clitoria fairchildiana</italic>, and <italic>Solanum rugosum</italic> have an appropriate mineral content and a moderate content of secondary metabolites. All have acceptable levels of nutritional components that make possible their use in animal feeding.</p>

		<p>Livestock in extensive systems extends to 30 % of the world's rainforests, and is associated with high deforestation levels and with the vocation change in soil use (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B9">FAO 2018</xref>). Livestock production is associated with the change in soil use, causes a decrease in biodiversity, environmental services and alters biological cycles and ecosystems, which contributes to the planet's climate change. Considering the problem, under the Amazonia conditions it is urgent to restructure livestock to environmentally friendly systems, in which grass monocultures were replaced by natural grasses, with less water requirement and perennial plant species and silvopastoral systems that diversify the forage supply (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B11">Gomez <italic>et al.</italic> 2017</xref>).</p>
		<p>The nutritional content of tropical grasses, the lack of knowledge of the new species and their limited fiber degradability by herbivores, are limitations for animal productivity in the Amazonian piedmont. Some farmers use grazing systems in silvopastoral systems, which allow increasing and diversifying the forage supply, to improve the diet quality and ensure the conservation and recycling of nutrients, under the particular conditions of the Amazonian soils (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B33">Vivas <italic>et al.</italic> 2017</xref>).</p>
		<p>In the same way, production per unit area should be maximized, due to current food production needs, taking into account the new challenges of the ecological livestock , which contributes to the reduction of greenhouse gases (GHG) and the reduction of contaminants (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B8">Fajardo <italic>et al.</italic> 2014</xref>).</p>
		<p>It is known that variations in the intensity and frequency of rainfalls, El Niño phenomenon and high temperatures affect food production. Specifically, in the Amazonia, tropical grasses are generally characterized by having low amounts of biomass and low nutritional quality, which is due to the soils quality. For these reasons, farmers need to find new materials that help to improve the food supply for their animals (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B10">Gallego-Castro <italic>et al.</italic> 2016</xref>). The forage supply, with trees and shrubs, compared to that of grasses, tends to better preserve organic matter (limiting factor), due to the return to the soil of leaves, fruits, branches, faeces and urine, which is mainly derived from the increase of the edaphological activity of the soil through the nutrients recycling, especially in acid soils and deficient in elements such as phosphorus and potassium, high in iron and aluminum, characteristic of the Amazonia (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B30">Townsend and <italic>et al.</italic> 2010</xref>).</p>
		<p>Forage resources are the basis of nutrition and ruminants feeding, they provide the highest percentage of nutrients for their own productive and reproductive performance. However, the trees have a very variable composition, due to multiple factors that affect their quality. Using tree forage in animal feeding is a challenge for researchers exploring new resources in the Amazonia (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B19">Morales-Velasco and Teran-Gomez 2016</xref>). This can only be achieved through the knowledge of the food resources available to each region and considering the need to optimize the use of alternative sources for animal feeding under humid tropics conditions.</p>
		<p>The objective of this research was to carry out the nutritive characterization of trees from the Amazonian piedmont, in Putumayo department, Colombia.</p>
		<sec sec-type="materials|methods">
			<title>Materials and Methods</title>
			<p>The study was carried out at Villa Lucero farm, located at coordinates 0°35'25.6 &quot;N and 76°32'05.3&quot; W in Putumayo department, Colombia, 256 m.o.s.l. The average temperature of the region is 25.3ºC, with 85 % relative humidity and 3355 mm of annual precipitation (IDEAM 2017). This region corresponds to the tropical humid forest (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B14">Holdridge 1947</xref>).</p>
			<p>The soils of this region are characterized by being of clay-loam and clay respectively. They are acidic soils (pH 4.6), low in phosphorus (&lt;1.7 mg kg), with high contents of aluminum (&gt; 3.2 cmol / kg) and iron. The soil was not irrigated and the plants were not fertilized during the experimental period. The study area was 1.5 ha and 2,500 m<sup>2</sup> plots were used for each of the six local forage species: <italic>Tithonia diversifolia</italic> (Asteraceae), <italic>Trichantera gigantea</italic> (Acanthaceae), <italic>Pictocoma discolor</italic> (Asteraceae), <italic>Clitoria fairchildiana</italic> (Fabaceae), <italic>Hibiscus rosa sinensis</italic> (Malvaceae) and <italic>Solanum rugosum</italic> (Solanaceae).</p>
			<p><italic>Characterization of forage species</italic>. The forage samples to be evaluated had a regrowth age of sixty days. A total of fifteen samples of a plant were taken in zig-zag from each plot of the crop, cutting from one meter. Leaves and stems were collected, harvested from the basal part of the regrowth in the summer season in June. From each species, three 200 g samples were taken for laboratory analysis. The samples were weighed and oven dried at 60 °C for 48 h. Later, they were ground in a hammer mill, until reaching a 1 mm size.</p>
			<p><italic>Nutritional analysis</italic>. It was performed by NIRS spectroscopy. After homogenization, the samples of round and dried forage were placed in a 50mm diameter recipient and scanned from 400 to 1098 and from 1100 to 2498nm, in 2nm increments. A VIS / NIR spectrophotometer (Foss NIR Systems model 6500; <ext-link ext-link-type="uri" xlink:href="http://www.foss.com">www.foss.com</ext-link>) was used. The spectrums were recorded with WinISI 4.7.0 (<ext-link ext-link-type="uri" xlink:href="http://www.foss.com">www.foss.com</ext-link>), in the AGROSAVIA laboratory at Mosquera (Cundinamarca).</p>
			<p>The variables dry matter (DM), crude protein (CP), ether extract (EE), neutral detergent fiber (NDF), acid detergent fiber (ADF), lignin (L), hemicellulose (Hc), digestibility, metabolizable energy in ruminants (ME), calcium (Ca), phosphorus (P), sulfur (S), magnesium (Mg), zinc (Zn), copper (Cu), phenols (F), total tannins (Tt) and total alkaloids ( Ta) (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B2">C Ariza-Nieto <italic>et al.</italic> 2018</xref>) were evaluated. For the qualitative content of secondary plant metabolites (SPM), qualitative tests were carried out in the specialized laboratories of the Universidad de Nariño. Saponins, phenols and sterols were characterized on the negative, low, moderate and abundant scale. The methodology described by <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B6">Domínguez (1973)</xref> and <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B4">Bilbao (1997)</xref> was followed.</p>
			<p><italic>Statistical analysis.</italic> The characterization of the forage plants was carried out using descriptive statistics, with the calculation of the position and dispersion statisticians: mean, standard deviation and coefficient of variation. The InfoStat statistical program (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B7">Di Rienzo <italic>et al.</italic> 2012</xref>) was used to process the data.</p>
		</sec>
		<sec sec-type="results|discussion">
			<title>Results and Discussion</title>
			<p>
				<xref ref-type="table" rid="t1">Table 1</xref> shows the chemical composition of the forage plants. The values found for <italic>Piptocoma discolor</italic> (Pd) are higher than those reported by <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B17">Mendoza <italic>et al</italic>. (2014)</xref>, with 20.18 % protein and 24.87 % dry matter, so this species is considered to have high potential for silvopastoral systems, due to its good growth and volume. <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B17">Mendoza <italic>et al.</italic> (2014)</xref>, in a study carried out under the Ecuadorian Amazonia conditions, recommend it to establish forest and agroforestry plantations, due to its high crude protein content. However, these values are lower with respect to the protein contents of the species <italic>Tithonia diversifolia</italic>, and <italic>Piptocoma discolor</italic> (23.6 % and 20.18 %, respectively), used in the silvopastoral systems of Caquetá. <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B13">Guayara (2010)</xref> reported values of 39.79 % of NDF and 36.06 % of ADF for this last tree, figures that can be considered medium to high. This reference motivates research for the establishment and massification of this species in silvopastoral systems for browsing (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B16">Hurtado and Suárez 2013</xref>).</p>

			<p>The values found for the forage <italic>Hibiscus rosa - sinensis</italic> (13.20; 3.50; 33.00 and 17.13 % for protein, EE, NDF and ADF, respectively) are lower than those reported by <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B18">Meza <italic>et al.</italic> (2014)</xref>. According to <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B15">Huanca <italic>et al.</italic> (2017)</xref>, this species is a fast growing tree with biomass availability and is used as post wood. In addition, it has good palatability for cattle, which prefer it over other species.</p>
			<p>For the tree <italic>Trichantera gigantea</italic>, <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B20">Moreno-Lopez (2014)</xref> reported similar values to those found in this research (24.23; 19.0 and 2.78 % for DM, CP and EE, respectively). These results are higher to those obtained by <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B31">Valarezo and Ochoa (2013)</xref>, with 18.18 % for CP and 1.88 % EE. <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B3">Bejar (2017)</xref> refers that this shrub is a promising species as an alternative for supplementation in cattle diets.</p>
			<p>In the <italic>Tithonia diversifolia</italic> species, the contents of CP, NDF and Hc in this study are lower than those reported by <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B26">Rodriguez (2017)</xref> in their characterization of different plant materials. The obtained values ranges from 18.26 to 26.40 %, 32.62 to 41.83 % and 14.79 to 25.74 % for CP, NDF and Hc respectively, which denotes high variability in the data. <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B24">Rivera <italic>et al.</italic> (2018)</xref> reported that this species has a high biomass production and superior chemical composition with respect to most of the grasses used under tropical conditions. In addition, it has a good edaphoclimatic adaptation. The EE values (2.0 %) were higher than those obtained by <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B5">Chamba (2016)</xref>, which makes this species a forage alternative to use in sustainable animal production systems in the Amazonian piedmont.</p>
			<p>The mineral composition of the forage plants is shown in <xref ref-type="table" rid="t2">table 2</xref>. The Zn and Cu values for the <italic>Trichantera gigantea</italic> tree are higher compared to the other forage plants under study. The Ca content was in a range of 2.22 to 2.63 %, higher than the one found by <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B25">Rivera <italic>et al.</italic> (2017)</xref>, like P 0.29 %.</p>

				<xref ref-type="table" rid="t3">Table 3</xref> shows the anti-nutritional factors of the forage plants. The qualitative analysis showed that the saponins in the <italic>Piptocoma discolor</italic> are in a higher value, in relation to the other forage plants. This could have an effect on the ruminal fermentation pattern. <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B1">Alayón <italic>et al.</italic> (2018)</xref> reported about 50 species rich in tannins and saponins, with the potential to mitigate CH<sub>4</sub> in enteric fermentation of ruminants. <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B12">González García <italic>et al.</italic> (2018)</xref> found, under <italic>in vitro</italic> conditions, the ability of this compound to inhibit methanogenesis and the population of ciliated protozoa.</p>

				<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B28">Terranova <italic>et al.</italic> (2014)</xref>, when supplying 0.4 g/L of saponins in the diet, found that this metabolite, in moderate doses, can reduce the use of ruminal protein, increasing the flow of duodenal protein and reducing ammonia concentrations in the rumen, with 18.4 % increase in microbial protein mass and 8.3 % reduction in ammonium concentrations. This can be an important alternative for the supplementation of this forage in silvopastoral systems at the Amazonian piedmont.</p>
			<p>In all the evaluated forage plants, the phenolic compounds content was moderate. However, the results show that <italic>Clitoria fairchildiana</italic> has the highest content, when compared with that reported in studies by <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B32">Verdecia <italic>et al.</italic> (2018)</xref>. These authors found that the values of these compounds are below to those reported in the edible fraction of some legumes from production systems in the tropics, showing the quality of this species to be use in animal feeding.</p>
			<p>In the qualitative analysis, the forage plants do not report alkaloids. The results show that the highest proportion corresponds to <italic>Hibiscus rosa - sinensis</italic>. For this same species, the lowest tannin value was reached with 0.02 %. Authors such as <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B21">Obrador <italic>et al.</italic> (2007)</xref> report that there is variation in the productive and metabolic response of growing ruminants, when using this tree harvested at different cutting frequencies, which is explained by the different concentrations of condensed tannins that affect the intake and the ruminal metabolism. Being this species palatable for its good palatability in cattle; deeper studies in silvopastoral systems are needed.</p>
			<p>Different researches shows the effect of intake high tannin diets on ruminants. Authors like <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B22">Ramirez (2018)</xref> suggest that the ingestion of tannins inhibits the growth of rumen proteolytic microorganisms. <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B29">Tituaña (2018)</xref> found that the ingestion of condensed tannins (CT) decreases the digestibility of the protein and NDF as the rumen fermentation patterns. The plant CT reduce the ruminal methanogenesis by decreasing hydrogen formation. <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B27">Sánchez <italic>et al.</italic> (2018)</xref> found a greater amount of total viable and proteolytic bacteria, and a higher concentration of SCFA in animals that intake multiple mixtures of herbaceous legumes without tannins. This suggests that <italic>Clitoria fairchildiana</italic>, with 2.72 % of CT is the one that could have less use by ruminants.</p>
		</sec>
		<sec sec-type="conclusions">
			<title>Conclusions</title>
			<p>According to the characterization of shrubs in the Amazonian piedmont, the species <italic>Piptocoma discolor</italic>, <italic>Trichantera gigantea</italic> and <italic>Hibiscus rosa sinensis</italic> have an adequate content of protein, energy and digestibility. <italic>Tithonia diversifolia</italic>, <italic>Clitoria fairchildiana</italic> and <italic>Solanum rugosum</italic> have adequate mineral content and moderate content of secondary metabolites. All have acceptable levels of nutritional components that make possible their use in animal feeding.</p>

				<title>Resumen</title>
				<p>Se realizó la caracterización nutritiva de arbóreas del pie de monte amazónico, en el departamento del Putumayo, Colombia. Se recolectaron muestras aleatorias de seis especies forrajeras locales: <italic>Tithonia diversifolia,</italic>, <italic>Trichantera gigantea</italic>, <italic>Piptocoma discolor</italic>, <italic>Clitoria fairchildiana</italic>, <italic>Hibiscus rosa-sinensis</italic> y <italic>Solanum rugosum</italic>, con edad de rebrote de sesenta días. Se hizo la caracterización bromatológica por espectroscopia NIRS y se determinó cualitativamente el contenido de factores anti-nutricionales. Para el análisis estadístico se tuvieron en cuenta los estadígrafos media, desviación típica y coeficiente de variación. <italic>Piptocoma discolor</italic> sobresalió por su alta calidad, ya que presentó el porcentaje de digestibilidad más alto (74.71), y superiores valores de proteína (21.52 %) y contenido energético (10.26 Mj/kg MS) con respecto al resto de las especies. Le siguió <italic>Trichantera gigantea,</italic> con porcentaje de digestibilidad de 68.99; valores de proteína de 20.34 % y contenido energético de 9.63 EM (Mj/kg MS). La especie <italic>Hibiscus rosa-sinensis</italic> mostró los menores valores de FDN (34.47%) y FDA (17.13%) y mayor contenido de almidones totales (3.31%). En la composición mineral, los valores de Zn y Cu para la arbórea <italic>Trichantera gigantea</italic> y la cantidad de Ca y P para la <italic>Tithonia diversifolia</italic> fueron superiores en relación con las otras forrajeras. De acuerdo con la caracterización de las arbustivas, se concluye que las especies <italic>Piptocoma discolor</italic>, <italic>Trichantera gigantea</italic> e <italic>Hibiscus rosa-sinensi</italic> poseen un adecuado contenido de proteína, energía y digestibilidad. Las especies <italic>Tithonia diversifolia, Clitoria fairchildiana</italic> y <italic>Solanum rugosum</italic> tienen contenido apropiado de minerales y moderado contenido de metabolitos secundarios. Todas presentan niveles aceptables de componentes nutricionales que posibilitan su uso en alimentación animal.</p>

			<p>La ganadería en sistemas extensivos se extiende en 30 % de las selvas o bosques tropicales del mundo, y se relaciona con altos niveles de desforestación y con el cambio de vocación en el uso del suelo (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B9">FAO 2018</xref>). La producción ganadera se asocia con el cambio de uso del suelo, ocasiona disminución de la biodiversidad, de los servicios ambientales y altera los ciclos biológicos y ecosistemas, lo que contribuye al cambio climático del planeta. Ante este problema, en las condiciones de la Amazonia es urgente la reconversión ganadera hacia sistemas amigables con el ambiente, en los que se reemplacen los monocultivos de gramíneas por pastos naturales, con menor requerimiento hídrico y especies vegetales perennes y sistemas silvopastoriles que diversifiquen la oferta forrajera (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B11">Gomez <italic>et al</italic>. 2017</xref>). </p>
			<p>El contenido nutricional de las pasturas tropicales, el desconocimiento de las nuevas especies y su limitada degradabilidad de fibra por parte de los herbívoros, constituyen limitantes para la productividad animal en el pie de monte amazónico. Algunos productores utilizan sistemas de pastoreo en sistemas silvopastoriles, que permiten aumentar y diversificar la oferta de forraje, para mejorar la calidad de la dieta y asegurar la conservación y el reciclaje de nutrientes, dadas las condiciones particulares de los suelos amazónicos (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B33">Vivas <italic>et al.</italic> 2017</xref>)</p>
			<p>De la misma manera se debe maximizar la producción por unidad de área, debido a las necesidades actuales de producción de alimento, teniendo en cuenta los nuevos desafíos de una ganadería ecológica, que contribuya a la disminución de gases efecto invernadero (GEI) y a la reducción de contaminantes (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B8">Fajardo <italic>et al.</italic> 2014</xref>). </p>
			<p>Es conocido que las variaciones en la intensidad y frecuencia de las precipitaciones, el fenómeno El Niño y las altas temperaturas afectan la producción de alimentos. Específicamente, en la Amazonia, las pasturas tropicales se caracterizan, por lo general, por presentar baja cantidad de biomasa y baja calidad nutricional, lo que obedece a la calidad de los suelos. Por estas razones, los productores necesitan encontrar nuevos materiales que ayuden a mejorar la oferta de alimentos para sus animales (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B10">Gallego-Castro <italic>et al.</italic> 2016</xref>). La oferta forrajera, con árboles y arbustivas, en comparación con la de gramíneas, suele conservar mejor la materia orgánica (actor limitante), por el retorno al suelo de hojas, frutas, ramas, heces y orina, que se deriva fundamentalmente del incremento de la actividad edafológica del suelo por medio del reciclaje de nutrientes, especialmente en suelos ácidos y deficientes en elementos como el fósforo y el potasio, altos en hierro y aluminio, característicos de la Amazonia (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B30">Townsend <italic>et al.</italic> 2010</xref>)</p>
			<p>Los recursos forrajeros son la base de la nutrición y alimentación de los rumiantes, proveen el mayor porcentaje de los nutrientes destinados hacia su propio desempeño productivo y reproductivo. No obstante, las arbóreas presentan una composición muy variable, debido a múltiples factores que afectan su calidad. Utilizar forrajeras arbóreas en la alimentación animal es un reto para los investigadores que exploran nuevos recursos en la Amazonia (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B19">Morales-Velasco y Teran-Gomez, 2016</xref>). Esto solo se puede lograr mediante el conocimiento de los recursos alimentarios de los que dispone cada región y al considerar la necesidad de optimizar el uso de fuentes alternativas para la alimentación animal en las condiciones del trópico húmedo.</p>
			<p>El objetivo de esta investigación fue realizar la caracterización nutritiva de arbóreas del pie de monte amazónico, en el departamento del Putumayo, Colombia.</p>
			<sec sec-type="materials|methods">
				<title>Materiales y Métodos</title>
				<p>El trabajo se desarrolló en la finca Villa Lucero, situada en las coordenadas 0°35'25.6&quot;N y 76°32'05.3&quot;W del departamento del Putumayo, Colombia, a 256 m s.n.m. La temperatura promedio de la región es de 25.3ºC, con 85% de humedad relativa y 3355 mm de precipitación anual (IDEAM 2017). Esta región corresponde a la zona de vida bosque húmedo tropical (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B14">Holdridge 1947</xref>).</p>
				<p>Los suelos de esta región se caracterizan por ser del tipo arcillo-limoso y arcilloso respectivamente. Son suelos ácidos (pH 4.6), bajos en fósforo (&lt; 1.7 mg/kg), con altos contenidos de aluminio (&gt; 3.2 cmol/kg) y hierro. El terreno no se regó ni se fertilizaron las plantas durante la etapa experimental. El área de estudio fue de 1.5 ha y se utilizaron parcelas de 2.500 m<sup>2</sup> para cada una de las seis especies forrajeras locales: <italic>Tithonia diversifolia</italic> (Asteraceae), <italic>Trichantera gigantea</italic> (Acanthaceae)<italic>, Pictocoma discolor</italic> (Asteraceae), <italic>Clitoria fairchildiana</italic> (Fabaceae)<italic>, Hibiscus rosa sinensis</italic> (Malvaceae) y <italic>Solanum rugosum</italic> (Solanaceae). </p>
				<p><italic>Caracterización de las especies forrajeras.</italic> Las muestras de forrajeras a evaluar tenían edad de rebrote de sesenta días. En cada parcela del cultivo se tomaron en zig-zag quince muestras de una planta, que se podaron a partir de un metro. Se recolectaron hojas y tallos, cosechados de la parte basal del rebrote en la época de verano, en el mes de junio. De cada especie, se tomaron tres muestras de 200 g para los análisis de laboratorio. Las muestras se pesaron y se secaron en estufa a 60 °C durante 48 h. Posteriormente se trituraron en un molino de martillo, hasta alcanzar tamaño de 1 mm. </p>
				<p><italic>Análisis nutricional</italic>. Se realizó por espectroscopia NIRS. Después de la homogeneización de la muestra, se colocaron muestras de forraje seco en un anillo de 50 mm de diámetro y se escanearon de 400 a 1098 y de 1100 a 2498 nm, en incrementos de 2 nm. Se utilizó para ello un espectrómetro de barrido VIS / NIR (Foss NIR Systems modelo 6500; <ext-link ext-link-type="uri" xlink:href="http://www.foss.com">www.foss.com</ext-link>).Los espectros se grabaron con el WinISI 4.7.0 (<ext-link ext-link-type="uri" xlink:href="http://www.foss.com">www.foss.com</ext-link>), en el laboratorio de AGROSAVIA sede Mosquera (Cundinamarca). </p>
				<p>Se evaluaron las variables materia seca (MS), proteína cruda (PC), extracto etéreo (EE), fibra detergente neutro (FDN), fibra detergente ácida (FDA), lignina (L), hemicelulosa (Hc), digestibilidad, energía metabolizable en rumiantes (EM), calcio (Ca), fosforo (P), azufre (S), magnesio (Mg), zinc (Zn), cobre (Cu), fenoles (F), taninos totales (Tt) y alcaloides totales (At) (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B2">Ariza-Nieto <italic>et al.</italic> 2018</xref>). Para el contenido cualitativo de metabolitos secundarios de las plantas (MSP) se realizaron las pruebas cualitativas en los laboratorios especializados de la Universidad de Nariño. Se caracterizaron saponinas, fenoles y esteroles en la escala de negativo, bajo, moderado y abundante. Se siguió la metodología descrita por <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B6">Domínguez (1973)</xref> y <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B4">Bilbao (1997)</xref>. </p>
				<p><italic>Análisis estadístico.</italic> La caracterización de las plantas forrajeras se realizó a partir de estadística descriptiva, con el cálculo de los estadígrafos de posición y dispersión: media, desviación estándar y coeficiente de variación. Para el procesamiento de los datos se utilizó el programa estadístico InfoStat (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B7">Di Rienzo <italic>et al</italic>. 2012</xref>).</p>
			</sec>
			<sec sec-type="results|discussion">
				<title>Resultados y Discusión</title>
				<p>En la <xref ref-type="table" rid="t4">tabla 1</xref> se muestra la composición química de las forrajeras. Los valores encontrados para el <italic>Piptocoma discolor</italic> (Pd) son superiores a los informados por <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B17">Mendoza <italic>et al.</italic> (2014)</xref>, con 20.18 % de proteína y 24,87 % de materia seca, por lo que se considera esta especie con elevado potencial para los sistemas silvopastoriles, debido a su buen crecimiento y volumen. <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B17">Mendoza <italic>et al</italic>. (2014)</xref>, en un trabajo realizado en las condiciones de la Amazonia ecuatoriana, la recomiendan para establecer plantaciones forestales y agroforestales, debido a su alto contenido de proteína cruda. No obstante, estos valores son inferiores con respecto a los contenidos de proteína de las especies <italic>Tithonia diversifolia</italic>, y <italic>Piptocoma discolor</italic> (23.6 % y 20.18 %, respectivamente), utilizadas en los sistemas silvopastoriles del Caquetá. <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B13">Guayara (2010)</xref> informó valores de 39.79 % de FDN y 36.06 % de FDA para esta última arbórea, cifras que se pueden considerar de medias a altas. Esta referencia motiva la investigación para el establecimiento y masificación de esta especie en sistemas silvopastoriles para ramoneo <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B16">Hurtado y Suárez 2013</xref>). </p>

				<p>Los valores encontrados para la forrajera <italic>Hibiscus rosa-sinensis</italic> (13.20; 3.50; 33.00 y 17.13% para proteína, EE, FDN y FDA, respectivamente) son inferiores a los informados por <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B18">Meza <italic>et al.,</italic> (2014)</xref>. Según <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B15">Huanca <italic>et al.</italic> (2017</xref>), esta especie es un árbol de crecimiento rápido con disponibilidad de biomasa y se utiliza como madera para postes. Además, tiene buena palatabilidad para los bovinos, que la prefieren por sobre otras especies. </p>
				<p>Para la arbórea <italic>Trichantera gigantea</italic>, <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B20">Moreno-Lopez (2014)</xref> refirió valores similares a los encontrados en esta investigación (24.23; 19.0 y 2.78 % para MS, PC y EE, respectivamente). Estos resultados son superiores a los obtenidos por <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B31">Valarezo y Ochoa (2013)</xref>, con 18.18 % para PC y 1.88 % de EE. <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B3">Bejar (2017)</xref> refiere que esta arbustiva es una especie promisoria como alternativa para la suplementación en dietas destinadas a bovinos. </p>
				<p>En la especie <italic>Tithonia diversifolia</italic>, los contenidos de PC, FND y Hc en este estudio son inferiores a los que informó <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B26">Rodriguez (2017)</xref> en su caracterización de diferentes materiales vegetales. Los valores obtenidos revelan rangos desde 18.26 a 26.40 %, 32.62 a 41.83% y 14.79 a 25.74% para PC, FND y Hc, respectivamente lo que denota alta variabilidad en los datos. <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B24">Rivera <italic>et al.</italic> (2018)</xref> refirieron que esta especie tiene alta producción de biomasa y composición química superior con respecto a la mayoría de las pasturas utilizadas en condiciones tropicales. Además, posee una buena adaptación edafo climática. Los valores de EE (2.0%) fueron superiores a los que obtuvo <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B5">Chamba (2016)</xref>, lo que hace que esta especie pueda ser una alternativa forrajera a utilizar en sistemas sostenibles de producción animal del pie de monte amazónico.</p>
				<p>La composición mineral de las forrajeras se muestra en la <xref ref-type="table" rid="t5">tabla 2</xref>. Los valores de Zn y Cu para la arbórea <italic>Trichantera gigantea</italic> son superiores con respecto a las otras forrajeras en estudio. El contenido de Ca estuvo en un rango de 2.22 a 2.63 %, superior al encontrado por <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B25">Rivera <italic>et al.</italic> (2017)</xref>, al igual que el P 0.29 %. </p>

				<p>En la <xref ref-type="table" rid="t6">tabla 3</xref> se muestran los factores anti-nutricionales de las forrajeras. El análisis cualitativo indicó que las saponinas en el <italic>Piptocoma discolor</italic> se encuentran en un valor superior, en relación con las otras forrajeras. Esto podría tener efecto en el patrón de fermentación ruminal. <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B1">Alayón <italic>et al.</italic> (2018)</xref> refirieron cerca de 50 especies ricas en taninos y saponinas, con potencial para mitigar CH<sub>4</sub> en la fermentación entérica de rumiantes. <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B12">González García <italic>et al.</italic> (2018)</xref> encontraron, en condiciones <italic>in vitro</italic>, la habilidad de este compuesto de inhibir la metanogénesis y la población de protozoarios ciliados. </p>

					<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B28">Terranova <italic>et al.</italic> (2014)</xref>, al suministrar 0.4 g/L de saponinas en la dieta, encontraron que este metabolito, en dosis moderadas, puede reducir la utilización de proteína ruminal, aumentando el flujo de proteína duodenal y reduciendo las concentraciones de amonio en el rumen, con aumento de la masa de proteína microbiana en 18.4 % y reducción de 8.3 % en las concentraciones de amonio. Esta puede ser una alternativa importante para la suplementación de esta forrajera en sistemas silvopastoriles en el pie de monte amazónico.</p>
				<p>En todas las forrajeras evaluadas, el contenido de compuestos fenólicos fue moderado. Sin embargo, los resultados indican que <italic>Clitoria fairchildiana</italic> tiene el mayor contenido, si se compara con lo referido en trabajos de <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B32">Verdecia <italic>et al.</italic> (2018)</xref>, quienes informan 3.67 %. Estos autores encontraron que los valores de estos compuestos están por debajo de los que se reportan en la fracción comestible de algunas leguminosas de los sistemas de producción en el trópico, lo que demuestra la calidad de esta especie para ser utilizada en la alimentación animal.</p>
				<p>En el análisis cualitativo, las forrajeras no reportan alcaloides. Los resultados indican que la mayor proporción le corresponde a <italic>Hibiscus rosa-sinensis</italic>. Para esta misma especie, se alcanzó el valor más bajo de taninos con 0.02 %. Autores como <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B21">Obrador <italic>et al.</italic> (2007)</xref> refieren que existe variación en la respuesta productiva y metabólica de rumiantes en crecimiento, al emplear esta arbórea cosechada a diferentes frecuencias de corte, lo que se explica por las diferentes concentraciones de taninos condensados que afectan el consumo y el metabolismo ruminal. Siendo esta especie apetecible por su buena palatabilidad en bovinos, son necesarios estudios más profundos en sistemas silvopastoriles.</p>
				<p>Diferentes investigaciones demuestran el efecto del consumo de dietas altas en taninos en los rumiantes. Autores como <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B22">Ramirez (2018)</xref> plantean que la ingestión de taninos inhibe el crecimiento de los microorganismos proteolíticos del rumen. <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B29">Tituaña (2018)</xref> encontró que la ingestión de los taninos condensados (TC) disminuye la digestibilidad de la proteína y FDN como los patrones de fermentación del rumen. Los TC de las plantas reducen la metanogénesis ruminal mediante la disminución de la formación de hidrógeno. <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B27">Sánchez <italic>et al.</italic> (2018)</xref> encontraron mayor cantidad de bacterias viables totales y proteolíticas y mayor concentración de AGCC en animales que consumieron mezclas múltiples de leguminosas herbáceas sin taninos. Esto sugiere que <italic>Clitoria fairchildiana</italic>, con 2,72 % de TC es la que podría tener menor aprovechamiento por parte de los rumiantes. </p>

			<sec sec-type="conclusions">
				<title>Conclusión</title>
				<p>De acuerdo con la caracterización de arbustivas en el pie de monte amazónico, las especies <italic>Piptocoma discolor, Trichantera gigantea</italic> e <italic>Hibiscus rosa sinensis</italic> poseen un adecuado contenido de proteína, energía y digestibilidad. <italic>Tithonia diversifolia</italic>, <italic>Clitoria fairchildiana</italic> y <italic>Solanum rugosum</italic> tienen adecuados contenidos de minerales y moderado contenido de metabolitos secundarios. Todas presentan niveles aceptables de componentes nutricionales que posibilitan su uso en alimentación animal.</p>
